The first edition of the “Omniyat Madrisitc” environmental competition has concluded. The competition was organized in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the “Omniya Environmental Project” and was held at the ministry’s theater under the patronage of Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities Maryam Al-Anzi. The event was attended by Acting Assistant Undersecretary for General Education Hessa Al-Mutawa, as well as Sana Al-Ghamlas and Farah Shaaban from the Omniya team.

Competition coordinator Ayaa Bader announced in a press statement today that Salah Al-Din Secondary School won first place based on the quantities collected during the competition, followed by Asma bint Amr Al-Ansariya Primary School for Girls in second place, while Bayan Secondary School for Girls came third.

Badr explained that the “Omniyat Madrisitc” competition ran from October 1, 2023, to November 30 of the same year. It aimed to promote the Omniya plastic-collection app, encourage the practice of sorting plastic waste at the source, and help create a generation that is aware of the importance of recycling plastic in preserving Kuwait’s environment.

She noted that during the competition period, more than 150 tons of plastic were collected in just 60 days from 48 government schools across all educational levels.

She added: “In terms of reach, we reached 125,000 people in Kuwait, as well as tens of thousands of people across the governorates.”
